Great Food

I love Chinese buffet breakfast! For two mornings we enjoyed this luxury at the Biway Hotel in Zhangjiejia.  7.30am - this is just my first helping from the wide selections on the buffet table - soya milk, mushroom soup, boiled fermented rice with berries (slightly sweet but nice), on the plate are fried rice, fried flat noodle and steamed savoury egg custard, the Japanese version is called Chawamushi.

Second helping -  noodle in spicy soup with ear fungus, rice porridge (always good), omelet and one more bowl of fermented rice soup!  Well, that's not quite all yet, there are the different types of steam buns . . .

This meal is called Silk Baby.  We came to try this after a hot pot dinner.  There are all manners of shredded raw vegetables that come in little bowls on a large tray - cucumber, corriander, spring onion, celery (both fresh and pickled), bean sprouts, thin egg noodle . . . You wrap a tiny amount of each in a small spring roll skin,  allowing an opening at one end where you add the sauce before pushing the Silk Baby into your mouth in one go.  Yum!  It's so healthy.  When I looked around, there were a few girls enjoying the meal on their own.  This is a specialty of Guiyang besides the hot pot.  Although one can also find hot pot in other parts of China,  the difference maybe that here the stock taste quite similar to the Thai soup, tom yam, and they have a special dipping sauce which I have asked for the recipe.  Yes, it's very good!
