April 21st - Furong Ancient Town (Lotus Town)

A town made famous by a movie of the same name, Lotus Town.

A rice tofu stall.  We tried, from another stall, it's as blend as tofu with a slightly different texture.
Kids having their own fun next to the stage where a performance is going on.

Cured meat that we would see in most of our meals.

Imagine having a huge waterfall in your backyard?  We could hear the gushing sound of the water as we walked round the little village.  I walked into a little restaurant which has a good  view of the waterfall.  The owner politely asked if I were going to take pictures of the view, in which case I'll need to pay.  Yes, you have to pay for every mountain, village, waterfall . . . in China.

There are signboards around to warn visitors of their safety.  Mind your head, watch your steps and avoid getting wet.

A truck outside the hotel, one of those vehicles where it's uniquely local.
A building across the street from our hotel.

The original rice tofu stall that appeared in the movie Lotus Town.
Hello, gorgeous !
Local cherries, they are quite small and much softer in texture.

From Hunan to Guizhou, we have been served many dishes prepared from cured meats, unlike your bacon they are a bit tough and salty.  But maybe that's how the locals enjoy them.  Behind the display is an old poster of the movie Lotus town.

Tea in all kinds of packaging, including the one that looks like a log and pumpkin.
Tea, in more familiar packaging.
Tea shop.

It says ' sweet wine made from glutinous rice, 3 yuan a cup '.  Maybe I should have tried.

More tea !

Salted fish.
Preserved vegetables.
Dried river shrimps.
And more salted fish!

The characters Lotus Town, calligraphy by the film director whose movie made famous the town.

Can't remember what is the significance of the pumpkin on the beam now !
