April 28th - San Pao (3 Treasures - the stage, drum tower and the wind and rain bridge) Village, Rong Jiang County

The three hour bus journey from Rong Jiang to Cong Jiang along meandering river was all the way a bumpy mountain road.  There were a few occasions where we had to drive into some major construction sites.  Thick dust enveloped the air.  Vegetation can be seen covered with a layer of white dust, as if some light snow has just fallen on them.  The road was wet and muddy, non existent at times. It did feel very much like we were on the road to nowhere. Then, out of the blue appeared the little town of Rong Jiang.  This is the view of the drum tower opposite our hotel room window.  Probably the main attraction in town.

A newly opened restaurant in town.  One of their delicacies was the fried stomach of a species of small local wild pig, which not many of us can appreciate.
The fern noodle in a dressing of vinegar, soya sauce, garlic and chillies was excellent.
Nice colours.
There is construction work almost every corner that you look, from the cities to remote villages.

Drum tower.

It was  just after lunch, the men are taking a break under the Banyan trees that lined the river bank.  Down below two women are washing their laundry.  Outside the shops, a few women engage in embroidery works.  A perfect picture of a peaceful little village.

Drying jute.

The front room of a family in the village, all engrossed in a game of bridge.
